Kate McKey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford-A Crim Funeral Home on Aug. 17, 2025.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kate McKey, 92, of Henderson, will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in the chapel at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Newton officiating. Interment will follow at Laneville Cemetery under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Monday, August 18, at the funeral home. Mrs. McKey passed from this life on August 16, 2025, at her residence. She was born March 5, 1933, in Rusk County to the late Fred and Rena (Weatherford) Stewart. Kate lived most all of her life in Henderson where she was a homemaker. She had also worked as a CNA for Leisure Lodge, now Henderson Health and Rehab, for over 15 years. Mrs. McKey was a kind, friendly woman and never met a stranger. Her children remember her as best cook ever, admitting that they can't hold a candle to her home cooking. Mrs. McKey was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother. She delighted in the newborn grandchildren and wanted to hold them as soon as she could. She was also a long-time, faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she was one of the two oldest members of the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years D.J. McKey, son Charles Ray McKey, grandsons Chris and Chad Miller, and her siblings Fred Stewart Jr., Mack Stewart, Viola Nichols, and Lillian McKey. Survivors include her children Roy Glen McKey and wife Cheryl of Hallsville, Armond McKey and wife Tammy, Brenda Miller and husband Bubba, and Tonya Dorsey, all of Henderson; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Glen McKey of Huntington; sister-in-law Louise McKey of Nacogdoches; her Pastor and very close friend Johnny Newton and wife Jena of Henderson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Pallbearers will be David McKey, Michael McKey, Jason McKey, Todd McKey, Brett Howell, and Trent Dorsey. Honorary pallbearers will be Corbin McKey, Braxton Miller, Grayson Miller, Aiden Miller, Ryan McKey, Maddox McKey, Dale McKey, and Ethan Williams.
