Elizabeth Ann Kane, age 83, passed away peacefully in her Pittsburgh home on July 11, 2025. She was born to the late Lillian and Julius (Gus) Gustafson on March 31, 1942, in Meriden, CT. She received her teaching degree from Upsala College in 1964.
She married the late Rev. Dr. Paul J. Kane in 1965. Beth is survived by her three sons, Eric, and his partner Casey (Connellsville, PA); Geoffrey, and his wife Pamela (Lower Burrell, PA); John, and his wife Amy (Franklin Park, PA); four grandchildren, Caithlin, Zachary, Adeline, and Sadie; one sister, Carol (Len) Berglund; one sister-in-law, Lois (Nevin) Davis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Emery Paul Kane; and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Waite) Kane.
Beth was immensely proud of her family and her Swedish heritage. She passed along her appreciation for life to her family, and leaves behind countless memories of love, laughter, dignity, and determination. In her spare time, she was an avid reader, a tireless gardener, and a devout member of her church. As a proud Pittsburgher, she enjoyed watching and listening to the Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins with her Iron City Beer.
A visitation will be held in the Schellhaas Funeral Home, 388 Center Avenue, West View, PA, on Friday, July 25 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26 in First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, 615 Grant Street, Pittsburgh PA. I will always hold Beth in my heart and will miss our hour long updates on the phone. I met her during my early stage treatments at AGH. We were both dedicated to making chemo days fun! We even threw a party for everyone when we had treatment on New Years eve, bringing in 2019. She was an incredible woman and friend! I enjoyed drinking tea with her at her house. She would pull out her special African Bush tea. She came to visit me one day and slipped me some money to take my two little boys for ice cream she reminded to embrace the little things. She was so proud of her three boys and cherished her grandkids and missed her beloved Husband Paul. She told me her lovely garden and how her granddaughter would put streaks of color in her hair. I will always hold her in my heart. She was one special woman!
