Elizabeth Kramer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 26, 2026.
Elizabeth Stein Kramer, age 81, born January 27, 1945, passed away February 5, 2026. Our beloved mother, devoted grandmother "Grammie," and loving wife to our deceased father Helmut G. Kramer, died in her sleep after struggling with health complications and recovering from surgery. Mrs. Kramer is survived by her daughter Lisa B. Kramer (fiance Mark Litzler) and her sons Michael Shamas Kirk and Oscar Graham Leonard; and her son Peter H. Kramer and his wife Barbara and their beloved pups Charlie and Ollie. After graduating from Lutheran East High School, Elizabeth attended Valparaiso University, and then graduated from Ohio State University in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. She served as a social worker at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center and worked at Capitol Records. In 1972, she became a full-time mother (her most important work). She supported her family in multiple ways as a dedicated wife and best friend to Helmut; as an extraordinary mother to her children; and as a doting grandmother to her two grandsons. She valued education and taught her children how to garden, to ice skate, to care for horses, to trust in themselves, and to be independent thinkers. She also spent hours reading and laughing with her grandsons when they were babies and through their earlier years. With them, she enjoyed bird watching, nature walks, tennis, wagon rides, library visits, picnics, beach play, sailing, cooking, gardening, and caring for their wellbeing. She was a trusted advisor, a best friend, a nurturer, and an anchor. She lived with curiosity, passion, love, a sense of adventure and humility, and she spread her wings wide and strong to care for and protect those she loved. Her loss is felt through multiple layers, daily, and by all of us. Her ashes will be spread throughout nature in the U.S. Her life, along with Helmut's, is commemorated by two blue birds on a bench along the nature walk trail at Lakeview Cemetery. In her memory, contributions may be made to: Ruffing Montessori School, 3380 Fairmount Boulevard, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118 and to dogsinc.org (4210 77th St. E, Palmetto, FL 34221).
