George Kramer Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 23, 2026.
George P. Kramer, 101, formerly of Miami, Florida, passed away on February 16, 2026, with his daughter and son-in-law by his side.

George was born on January 21, 1925, to John and Rose Kramer in New Rochelle, New York. He was the youngest of four children.

George enlisted in the United States Army on February 23, 1943. He was initially assigned to a unit in New Orleans, Louisiana, for training as an Army medic and was quickly promoted to Private First Class. He was later transferred to an infantry division, where he earned his paratrooper wings. He proudly served with the 101st Airborne Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, George met and later married Shirley Gedney on December 16, 1948. Together they had one child, Patti Ann. After many years of dedicated service, George retired from the City of Miami Fire Department, where he worked as a mechanic maintaining fire engines and related equipment. Retirement did not suit him, and he later accepted employment with the State of Florida.

George lived life to the fullest. He always found a reason to laugh and loved to tease those around him. He was a devoted husband, father, "Pop," uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. He left a lasting impression on all whose lives he touched.

George is survived by his daughter, Patricia K. Gibson (Bruce); his grandchildren, Tracey G. McAtee (Glenn) and Christopher Gibson (Shannon); his great-grandchildren, Alexes and Ansley Gibson, and Matthew and Johnathan McAtee; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife; his siblings, Catherine Vance (James), John Kramer (Ruth), and William Kramer (Barbara); and his special friend, Ursula Valdez.

A graveside service will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 1 PM.
