Elizabeth (Liz) Kathrina Lund, 100 of rural Fertile, MN, formerly of Tioga, ND went to her heavenly home on October 29, 2025 with family by her side.
Liz was born October 19, 1925 in Harvey, ND to John and Marion Piatz. She grew up on the family farm near Fillmore, ND. After completing high school, she continued her education at Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND. While in Fargo she was employed at Gaffney's.
On January 2, 1946 she married the love of her life, Kenneth Lund. They were married at St Mary's Catholic Church in Knox, ND. They resided in Fillmore, Esmond, and Flaxton. In 1967 they moved to Tioga and made Tioga their home.
Liz and Kenneth had a loving marriage for 65 years, and together raised 6 children. After Kenneth's passing in 2011, she continued to live in their home until she was 95 years old. In March of 2021 she went to live with her daughter, Deborah and son-in-law, Marvin on their farm near Fertile, MN.
Liz was a homemaker and loved her calling. She was an excellent cook and baker and loved to feed people well. She also enjoyed her yard and took great pride tending to her flowers and vegetable garden until she was well into her 90's. Each fall she canned hundreds of jars of vegetables that she lovingly shared with family and friends.
One of Liz's joys was gathering around the kitchen table to play cards or games. Her favorite card game was pinochle, which she taught to all her children and most of her grandchildren. Another favorite was aggravation, and oh how Grandma Lizzy loved to knock off the grandkids marbles and send them back to start. When she was with family you can bet there were lots of pinochle and aggravation being played, along with lots of laughter!
Liz enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, reading, doing word search puzzles, and listening to country music. Her favorite artist was Alan Jackson. At the age of 85, her daughter Lilia took her to an Alan Jackson concert and she loved it.
Liz was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and aunt. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her 6 children, Deborah (Marvin) Gunderson of Fertile, MN, Kenneth (Arlene) Lund Jr. of Mandan, ND, Lilia (Bob) Waggoner of Williston, ND, Julie (Dennis) Jacobson of West Fargo, ND, Larry (Mary) Lund of San Marcos TX, Penny (Doug) Lalim of Williston, ND; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lund; her parents, John and Marion Piatz; sisters, Marion Walters, Lena Ganje, and Eva Piatz; mother-in-law Minnie Lund; father-in-law Alfred Lund; step-mother-in-law Bertha Lund; brothers-in-law, Bill Walters, George Ganje, Percy Christensen, Lowell Simpson, Manvil Lund, Harris Lund, Julius Lund, Elvern Lund; sisters-in-law, Anna Christianson, Doris Simpson, Laura Lund.
