Ruth Lund

1923 - 2025

Ruth Haynes Lund died peacefully in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 8, at the age of 102. She was born April 19, 1923, in Lancaster, New Hampshire, daughter of John Henry and Sarah Merinda (Wilson) Haynes.

Ruth graduated with a B.S. from the University of New Hampshire in 1944. She married Ralph Arnold Lund in 1945. She worked in several laboratories until her first child was born. The couple then settled in Richmond, Virginia, where they remained until 2005.

After a number of years as a homemaker with young children, Ruth became a tutor for children with dyslexia. She was one of the first teachers at the New Community School in Richmond, established in 1974 to educate high school age children with learning differences. Ruth and her colleague Mary Cheetham developed Keystone, a tutor's guide for teaching language structure, which remains in use today.

Ruth was a devoted Episcopalian and an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Richmond and later the Church of the Redeemer in Cincinnati. In 2005, Ruth and Ralph moved to Cincinnati, shortly before Ralph's death. Ruth lived at Deupree House, and later at the Cottages.

She is survived by her three sons: John Peter (Mary Foote) Lund, Stephen (Barbara) Lund, and Haynes (Michelle) Lund; six grandchildren: Benjamin Lund, Nissen Lund, Darren Lund, Brian Lund, Elizabeth Bigolin, and Susan Lund; and four great-grandchildren: Dylan Lund, Riley Lund, Nova Bigolin, and James Bigolin.

The Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., November 21, at the The Episcopal Church Of The Redeemer, 2944 Erie Ave. Cincinnati, OH.
