Elizabeth "Betty" Murphy, 95, of Dubuque, passed away July 19, 2025.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Church of the Nativity. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00a.m., with Msgr. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Betty was born on September 22, 1929, to Victor and Helen (Berwick) Walech in Dubuque, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Louis Murphy on January 31, 1955, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Dubuque. They shared 51 years of marriage before his passing on May 27, 2006.
Betty attended Balor Business School in Dubuque and went on to become a dental assistant, working for Dr. Plass. She was extremely proud of her work in the dental field.
Betty was a great cook and enjoyed sharing meals with her family. She worked in the Dubuque Community School District in the lunch program at Washington Jr. High for 15 years. She later retired to become a mall walker with her best friend Jeanie.
Betty was a long-time member of the Mother Cabrini Mother's Club and enjoyed their monthly gatherings. She was also on the leadership team with the Community of the Living Word Charismatic Group.
Betty is survived by her five children, Janice (Bill) Kueter of Durango, IA, Patrick Murphy of Dubuque, Thomas Murphy of Lafarge, Wisconsin, Mary Murphy of Dubuque, and Ann (Alan) Curtis of Westport, Connecticut. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Chuck Kueter, siblings, Marie Hansel, Leo Walech, and Victoria Fisher; in-laws, Virgil (Alvina) Murphy, and Duane (Eileen) Brooning.
Betty's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at Hawkeye Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque.
A Elizabeth "Betty" Murphy Memorial Fund has been established.
