Elizabeth Powell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home - Del Rio on Dec. 29, 2025.
Elizabeth Renee Powell, age 60, of Del Rio, Texas, went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2025. Renee was a cherished daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and loyal friend to many whose kindness and gentle spirit touched all who knew her.
Born and raised in Del Rio, Renee was a 1984 graduate of Liberty Baptist Academy. She was a lifelong and devoted member of Iglesia Cristo Vive, where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, sharing her love for God and others through her service.
Renee was an avid sports fan, especially devoted to the San Antonio Spurs, never missing a televised game. She also enjoyed watching game shows and spending quiet time with her beloved cats. Renee was known for her thoughtfulness and caring nature-she never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. Her consistent check-ins, heartfelt messages, and phone calls kept loved ones connected, and this gift will be deeply missed by many.
Renee is survived by her loving mother, Norma Ortiz Powell; her uncle Filemon Ortiz and aunt Maria Elena Ortiz; her aunt Guadalupe Ortiz; her cousins Larry Lake, David and Edna Ortiz, Arturo and Anne Ortiz, Larissa (Ortiz) and Julio Rodriguez, Abel and Sophie Ortiz, Ariel and Claudia Ortiz, and Abraham and Muny Ortiz; her caring neighbor Irene Gonzalez; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gary Powell; her maternal grandparents, Filemon and Bonifacia Ortiz; her paternal grandparents, Sumner and Margie Powell; her uncle Raymond G. Lake; her aunt Ofelia Esperanza Lake; her uncle Abel Ortiz; and her cousin John Lake.
Gentlemen with the honor of Pallbearers are Larry Lake, Abel Ortiz, Abram Ortiz, Matthew Ortiz, Jakob Ortiz, and Elan Rodriguez.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. A funeral procession will depart for San Felipe Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. The family warmly invites all who knew Renee to attend and share their favorite memories as they celebrate her life.

She sounds like a lovely woman. How sad it is to say "she WAS".
