Elizabeth Quiel, 90, of Poughkeepsie, New York, died peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie.
Elizabeth was born on August 15, 1935, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to the late Frank Daley and Margaret (Duyea) Daley.
On February 19, 1955, at St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie, Elizabeth married her husband of over 70 years, Norman Quiel, Mr. Quiel survives at home.
Elizabeth worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie for seven years, where she was also a member of the IBM Bowling League. She went on to dedicate over 35 years of service to the Hyde Park Central School District as a playground and cafeteria monitor. She was well respected by her colleagues and fondly remembered by countless students for her kindness, fairness, and genuine care. Her rapport with the children she served reflected her lifelong commitment to others, often receiving many mementos of love and affection from many of her students.
Elizabeth was the 4th lady to join the Roosevelt Rescue Squad and served on the squad for many years. She also was a member of the Roosevelt Ladies Auxiliary, where she served on a couple of offices and committees. She was also a longtime parishioner of St. Peters Parish.
Along with her husband Elizabeth is survived by her three children, Kevin Quiel of Bennington, Vermont, and his wife Ann Powell; Gregory Quiel of Garner, North Carolina, and his wife Darlene May. She was a proud grandmother of Samantha Quiel of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Casey Quiel of Richmond, Virginia and the cherished great-grandmother of Callie Quiel of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Along with her parents she was predeceased by her son Bruce Quiel, siblings, Ruth Keeling and husband Gordon, Dorothy Kraft and husband Russell, and Frank Collie.
Calling hours will be on Thursday January 22nd from 4pm to 6pm at Sweet's Funeral Home, 4365 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY.
A graveside service will take place on January 23rd at 11am at Union Cemetery, 1076 Violet Ave. Hyde Park, NY 12538.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park, NY.
