Mrs. Elizabeth T. Rhoades, 77, of Matamoras, PA, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Delaware Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on July 16, 1948, in Port Jervis, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Russell Martin and the late Kathryn Latham Martin.
Liz proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, a period of her life that shaped her enduring sense of duty, discipline, and devotion to others. Following her service, she began a long and dedicated career in healthcare administration. She worked as an Insurance Coordinator beginning in 1979 at St. Francis Hospital and later continued her service at Bon Secours Community Hospital, where she ultimately retired. Her colleagues knew her as a hardworking, compassionate presence who approached every task with integrity and care.
A woman of strong faith, Liz was a devoted member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Matamoras, PA. After retiring, she lovingly became the sole caretaker for her parents, tending to them with patience, dedication, and an unwavering sense of family responsibility.
On March 30, 1979, Liz married her loving husband, Lloyd Rhoades, in Port Jervis, NY. Their marriage, built on mutual devotion, lasted until Lloyd's passing in August 2017. Liz continued to honor his memory with grace and enduring love.
Liz is survived by her loving children: Joann VanHorn, Jeffrey Rhoades and his wife Heather, Christopher Morock, and Stephen Rhoades and his wife Lori. She was the cherished grandmother of Carl, Heather, Gregory, Jillian, Jerilyn, Joseph, Brian, Tessa, and Drew, and the proud great-grandmother of six great-grandchildren, with another precious addition expected soon.
She was predeceased by her brother, Michael Martin; her brother-in-law, Robert Rhoades; and her son-in-law, Carl VanHorn. Liz will be remembered for her strength, her generosity of spirit, and the deep love she held for her family. Her kindness, faith, and resilience leave behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
There will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 10:00am in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 307 Ave F., Matamoras, PA 18336 with Rev. Joseph Manarchuck officiating.
A burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY 12771.
