It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Sands, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished partner. Born on March 28, 1957, in New Albany, Elizabeth brought light and love into the lives of all who knew her. After a life filled with dedication and care, she departed this world on October 20, 2025, in Jeffersonville, surrounded by the love of her beloved partner of many years, Michael Desherlia.
Elizabeth's career as a baker at Honey Creme Donut Shop was a testament to her hard work and commitment to her craft. Her sweet treats brought joy not only to customers but also to family gatherings where her baked creations were enjoyed. Elizabeth possessed a quick wit and a generous spirit, making her a loyal partner and a nurturing, supportive mother to her children and grandchildren.
Throughout her journey, she found immense joy in her hobbies and interests. Elizabeth loved spending her days in her garden, surrounded by the beauty of nature that she cherished deeply. Her pets held a particular place in her heart, with her dogs and pet birds bringing her substantial joy and companionship. An enthusiastic bingo player, she enjoyed numerous evenings filled with laughter alongside her friends and family.
Elizabeth placed her family at the center of her world, and nothing made her prouder than watching them grow and thrive. She leaves behind her significant other, Michael Desherlia, daughters Christy (Tralaine Keel) Hilt, Shana Domeck, Elizabeth Brock, Elizabeth Stewart, and Casandra (Joshua) Estrin; sons David Brock, Lenny Desherlia, and Michael (Wendy) Desherlia; sisters Millie Hilt, and Nancy (Fred O'Neal) O'Neal; brothers Danny Hilt and Herby Hilt; and. Elizabeth’s legacy will live on through her twenty-eight loving grandchildren and seven adoring great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Jean and Glenn Hilt, as well as twelve devoted siblings who surely welcomed her with open arms.
In recognition of her vibrant life, a visitation will be held on October 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in Southern Indiana located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN 47150.
