Elizabeth Emogene Swain Shackelford

April 27, 1930 – August 28, 2025

Elizabeth Emogene Swain Shackelford, 95, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on August 28, 2025, peacefully at home in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Born and raised in Shreveport, Elizabeth lived a life marked by faith, love, and service. She worked as a switchboard operator at Doctors Hospital, but her greatest calling was as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and steadfast follower of Christ.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reuel Shackelford; her parents James C. Swain and Calla F. Swain; her siblings Myrtle S. Ropert, Robert J. Swain, and Mary Ozelle Roberts Bynog; her grandson, Vincent Shackelford; her son-in-law, Michael Farris; her daughter-in-law, Susan Shackelford; her nephews Buddy Roberts and Frank Bynog; her nieces Joyce Roberts, Pattie Roberts and Mary Francis Hart. She is survived by her children: Reuel Newton Shackelford (Donna), James Robert Shackelford, John Christopher Shackelford (Connie), Daniel Swain Shackelford, Cindy Lou Cortese (Paul), Mary Jo Taylor (Danny), and Rebeccah Farris. Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Blair Shackelford (Shelby), Lindsey Weiland (Matt), Tara Agsunod (Richard), Rachel Shackelford, Eric Cortese (Emma), Catherine Shackelford, Aaron Shackelford, Sam Shackelford, Lilia Taylor, and Luca Farris; and her great-grandchildren: Meridia Shackelford, Alyssa Weiland, Elliana Weiland, Bethany Weiland, Malachi Agsunod, Dani Ringgold, Eli Ringgold, Alex Shackelford, and Oliver Cortese. She is also survived by her niece, Rose Bynog White as well as numerous other extended family and friends.

Elizabeth's faith in God guided her every step. A gentle, soft-spoken woman, she carried a strength rooted in love and prayer. She cherished her time in the church choirs, lifting her beautiful voice in worship. She cared deeply for others, tending to family and friends with a servant's heart-especially her husband, Reuel, whom she faithfully cared for during his battle with ALS.

She delighted in being surrounded by children and found joy in every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a gift for encouragement, often writing heartfelt letters that left lasting imprints on the lives of those she loved.

The service will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Haynes Avenue Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be; Richard Agsunod, Eric Cortese, Paul Cortese, Aaron Shackelford, Blair Shackelford, Danny Taylor, Matt Weiland and, and honorary pallbearer Luca Farris.

Elizabeth's life was a testimony of grace, devotion, and enduring love. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her Savior and the love of her life in Heaven.
