Thomas "Tom" Shackelford

Thomas "Tom" W. Shackelford, 82, of Mokane, passed away peacefully at his home on August 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 30, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri. Tom was the son of the late Webb Shackelford and the late Myrtle (Yount) Shackelford. Tom was also raised by his stepfather, Ernest Shackelford, who played an important role throughout his life.

On November 9, 1963, Tom married the love of his life, Shirley (Doboney) Shackelford. Tom was preceded in death by Shirley on June 17, 2022.

Tom proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting in 1961 - 1964. He served on the USS Nitro, which was one of the proudest moments in his life. After the Navy Tom went on to give 35 years to ABB and 22 years as the Mayor of Mokane. When Tom partially retired, he dabbled in various trades such as body work and janitorial skills. When he finally retired, Tom spent all of his time making memories with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoying family gatherings, making memories with family and throwing back a cold beer.

Tom had several hobbies throughout his life including watching NASCAR, tinkering with various things outside, collecting old coins, playing poker, and watching dirt track racing.

He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Lori Lamons (Danny) and daughter-in-law, Glenda Shackelford; sister, Janet Frazier (Raymond). A proud grandfather, Tom, leaves behind four grandchildren: Heather Vaughn (Tyler), Dakota Wendring (Austin), Shawn Shackelford (Katie), and Katie Raps (Donny Raps). His legacy continues through his 11 great-grandchildren: Alexis, Kinslee, Gavin, Braxton, Taylee, Lillie, Lyla, Lucas, Aron, and Ryker, and lastly his "tiny butt" and keeper of his name, Teagen Layne-Thomas.

Along with his wife and parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his stepfather, an infant son and his son, Thomas "Tommy" Shackelford.

Memorial Services will be held at Maupin Funeral Home on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 6:00 pm with Pastor Mike Crowson officiating, with military honors rendered in recognition of his service. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
