Elizabeth "Betty" A. Shields, 96, of Stroudsburg, passed away Tuesday morning, January 6th, at St. Luke's Hospital - Monroe Campus in Bartonsville. She was the widow of William F. Shields who died July 29, 1989.

Born on June 29, 1929 in East Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Matilda (Rehm) Strunk and was a resident of Monroe County for most of her life other than from 1949 to 1970 when she lived in Little Falls, NJ.

She attended St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg and St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Stroudsburg.

Surviving are six children, Deborah Cravath (wife of the late Gerald) of Dickson City, William Shields and wife Patricia of East Stroudsburg, Colleen Starnadori of Stroudsburg, Michael Shields and wife Kerri of Fruitland Park, FL, Maureen Shields and friend Lynn Breedy of Fort Myers, FL, and Gregory Shields and wife Joann of Stroudsburg; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory Shields, Jr. and her six siblings, Franklin Strunk, Jeanette VanValkenburg, Herbert Strunk, Michael Strunk, Loretta Bowman and Carlyle "Tate" Strunk, Sr..

There will be a viewing on Wednesday, January 7th from 5:00 to 7:00PM at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 8th at 10:00AM at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, 78 Ridgeway Street, East Stroudsburg with Rev. Donald Williams as celebrant. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1541 Alta Drive, Suite 204, Whitehall, PA 18052.
