It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Autry Spell, who left us peacefully on March 16, 2025. Elizabeth was born October 9, 1929 in Autryville, NC to the late Hughie and Susan Spell Autry. She was also preceded in death by her step mother, Crayon Autry; her devoted husband, David Spell of 65 years, their daughter, Jill Spell Koonce; brothers, James Fred Autry, Vance Autry, Ireland Autry; sisters, Kathleen Koester and Jeanette Autry as well as her best friend of many years Nancy White whom she considered another sister.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Susan Glancy and Joyce Goins; son in law Chris Koonce all of Hope Mills; grandchildren, Rick Glancy of Fuquay-Varina, Robbie Goins, Tonya Goins, Christopher Goins, great grandchildren Ryan Michael Jones and Leah Elizabeth Jones all of Hope Mills; sister, Lois Martin & husband Billy of Autryville. As well as many nieces & nephews.
She was a long time member of Hope Mills Methodist Church. Elizabeth worked with Cumberland County Child Nutrition for 16 1/2 years where she enjoyed making her coworkers, teachers and students smile.
Elizabeth never met a stranger and was always happy to make a new friend, as her warmth and kindness touched the lives of so many. She loved to have family time at the beach especially the "Annual Family Carolina Beach Thanksgiving Trip" where so many cherished memories were made.
Elizabeth was a guiding light to all whom she touched, inspiring us to cherish every moment and to spread love just as she always did. Blessing always to family and friends, with many thanks for the kind deeds that fill our hearts with gratitude.
