Elizabeth "Betty" J. Vanderpool, age 97, passed away at Brewster Village in Appleton on June 19, 2024. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 9, 1926 to Herbert J. Gengler and Anita Eckhardt, and grew up near the future Capital Court.
Betty graduated from Messmer High School in 1944, when the bus service only went out to 35th and Capital. She married Richard T. Vanderpool of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on August 16, 1947 and moved to Madison, Wisconsin. In 1960, they moved to Appleton, Wisconsin. Betty worked with financial systems at Wisconsin Power & Light, Borden's and Sears. She was a whiz with the comptometer. Special activities included camping, square dancing, sewing, crafts and bowling. Camping morphed from a tent trailer to travel trailers and finally a motorhome. They traveled to all 50 states, London, Mexico and Germany. There was always a cat at their side at home and most of all when they traveled. Family was most important to Betty, but the Green Bay Packers, Badgers and Brewers team events were a highlight shared with many friends in Wisconsin and Ft. Myers, Florida.
Betty is survived by her son Tom (Carol) Vanderpool, grandson Brian (Heather) Vanderpool, great-grandchildren, Ella Anne, Sacia Vanderpool, and Zachary Vanderpool, grandson Keith (April) Vanderpool and great-granddaughter Viivi Hazel Vanderpool, granddaughter Rebecca Ruth Vanderpool. Daughter, Vickie (John) Resch, grandson Joshua (Kate) Resch great - grandchildren, Myles and Katalina, grandson, Patrick Resch, great - grandchildren, Emilee, Brianna, and Lexi, granddaughter Jennifer (Michael) Anderson, great -grandchildren, Oliver, Nora and Hayward and her brother-in-law William Kalivoda. She is preceded in death by her dear husband, her parents and her sister Virginia (Gengler) Kalivoda.
A Memorial Service for Betty will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. PIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette St., in Appleton. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 until the time of the service at 11:30.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brewster Village for their loving care of Betty.
