Ella Mae Mcclendon

Ella Mae (Brooks)- Nelson - McClendon 88 of Pulaski, Illinois was born November 25, 1935 in Cleveland, Mississippi to Ora Lee Brooks- Collins. She gave up the breath of life on December 16, 2023 at her home in Pulaski, Illinois surrounded by by three of her children.
Ella McClendon; you might have known her as Mother, Mama, or Mother Dear... she was the oldest of nine siblings that preceded her in death, except the youngest. Mother Dear was beloved by many and she loved the Lord wholeheartedly. Momma had a great sense of humor but if you didn't know her she would leave you questioning yourself. She spoke her mind, no filter. She would question you from A to Z when she met you. She laughed and enjoyed her life. She worked in Chicago, Illinois, raised and taught the first half of her children the word of the Lord. She remarried, moved to southern Illinois worked and raised and taught the last half of her children the word of the Lord. She loved to read the bible. She didn't travel much other than the states her children lived, but she did go to Africa for two weeks approximately two years ago and was in awe of their cultural differences.
Ella is preceded in death by her husband Allison McClendon, three daughters, Felicia D. Nelson, Deborah Nelson and Gwendolyn F. Davis, one son Jerell McClendon. In addition her mother Ora Lee Collins, three brothers, Chester Collins, Jr., Floyd Collins and Joseph Collins. Four sisters, Earlean Kelly, Annell Green, Clara Brown and Doris Bell all transitioned before her.
She leaves to cherish her memories 12 children: Rosalind Davis, Lorna (Clinton)Gale, Samuel Nelson, Nettyna (Larry) Johnson, Daniel McClendon, Hope McClendon, Esther McClendon, Aaron (Wanda) McClendon, Crystal McClendon Jacinth McClendon, Keturah (Tyree) Newman, Selah McClendon, her youngest sister Oneida Butler, 37 plus grandchildren, 53 plus great grandchildren and seven plus great great grandchildren. Her grandchildren all call her mother dear and a large host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services for Ella Mae McClendon will be held on Thursday December 28, 2023 at the Ullin Westside Cemetery at 1:00pm with her son Aaron McClendon, officiating.
