Ella Phillipy here, writing to you from a place of peace and tranquility. As a wise woman once said, "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me'". That's exactly how I lived my life, using every bit of talent I had to serve others and make this world a brighter place.
Born Ella S. Southerland on February 13, 1933, in the small town of Pecan Gap, Texas, I had a knack for making people look and feel beautiful from a young age. This passion led me to a rewarding career as a hairdresser. I also had the honor of being a Sunday School Teacher and serving at the Baylor Scott and White Auxiliary. I loved being in church and serving the Lord Jesus Christ. It is written, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). This verse guided me throughout my life journey. My life was a testament to these words; I always believed in the power of faith and the importance of service. From reading to the kids during story time at the library to fishing on the dock under the warm sun, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
My life journey took me to many places. From my birthplace in Pecan Gap to Dallas, Oak Cliff, Hutchins, Cedar Creek Lake, and finally to Waxahachie, every place I lived holds a piece of my heart. I got to share my life with my beloved Bud Phillipy, whom I married in 1952. We were blessed with a wonderful son, Randy, who made our small family complete. My son Randy and my niece Peggy Willmon and numerous nieces and nephews survive me. I am reunited once more with my parents, Adam and Grace Southerland, my siblings Vaughncille Coshea, Jimmie Webb, and Jefferson Southerland, and their respective partners, who all preceded me in this eternal journey.
My visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 6:00 pm at the Midlothian Funeral Home. My funeral will be held Thursday, May 8, at 11:00 am at Midlothian Funeral Home. I will be joined together again with my beloved Bud at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, following my funeral.
It's not goodbye, but see you later. As you remember me, remember that I lived a fulfilling, inspiring, and thoughtful life. I invite all who knew me to share their memories and photos on my memorial page as we celebrate a life well-lived. Your stories, laughter, and love will keep my memory alive. And always remember, "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1)
