Ellen Louise (Wagner) Bowen, 61, of Monkton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday September 10, 2025. Ellen was born on July 15, 1964 in Burlington daughter of Mary J. (Higgins) Wagner and the late James Lawrence Wagner.

Ellen was a remarkable woman with so many outstanding qualities. She was a tireless worker with an unmatched work ethic and mentor to many in her field. Her successful career in grocery store management spanned four decades. In leisure, Ellen spent most of her time with her husband and best friend Mike. She also adored and found deep joy in being part of her children and grandchildren's lives. She shared a special bond with her granddaughter Grace. She always looked forward to the many events that came with being part of a large family. Ellen shared with Mike the love of kayaking, camping, snowshoeing, hiking and sitting around the campfire with family and close friends. She also appreciated the many trips she took with her circle of people, enjoying concerts, attending Orlando Magic games and visiting new places. Ellen liked hanging by the pool, reading a good book or catching a movie. Mostly she loved to hear Mike tell a story! Ellen's amazing resilience, hardworking attitude, laughter and love will always be remembered.

Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 38 years Mike Bowen of Monkton, her son Shane Bowen of St. Albans, two daughters Tanya and Robert Smart of Monkton, Christine Bowen of Burlington, her mother Mary J. Wagner, four grandchildren, Grace Smart, Christopher Richards, Nickoli Richards and Matthew Smart, her Aunt Alberta from Indianna, seven siblings, Mary Claire Hooker of Watertown, NY, Peggy & Jeff Brooks of Colchester, James Wagner and Judy Fritz of Hinesburg, John and Dana Wagner of South Hero, Steven and Tracey Wagner of Swanton, Penny Wagner of Essex Jct., Thomas and Dancia Wagner of Phoenix, AZ, sisters and brothers-in-law Gregory and Rose Bowen of Essex Jct., David and Alicia Bowen of Barrington, NH, Carlene and Paul Metruk of Underhill, Debra and Duane Phelps of Milton, her loving and faithful companion Philo and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
