Ellen Speares Boyd Coddington, 93, passed away peacefully at home September 8, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born June 19, 1932, in Ireland to Hugh Robert and Sarah Speares, the 7th of 8 children. After the death of her mother, she came to America at the age of 3 and was adopted by Andrew and Ellen Boyd. She grew up in Long Island, NY and went to boarding school at St Johnsbury Academy in Vermont for high school. She received an associate degree in business from Boston University. At 20 years old she went back to Ireland and met her birth family. On July 24, 1955, she married Harry L. Coddington and resided in La Grangeville, NY. Both of them were employed at IBM in Poughkeepsie.

Ellen and Harry moved to Margate, Florida in 1968. There they became charter members of First Presbyterian Church of Coral Springs and Ellen agreed to be the church secretary. She continued to work in various secretarial roles before ending her career with General Motors. She enjoyed her family and church and friendly neighborhood immensely and was known as Mrs. C and Grandma C to those who loved her. Visiting the beach was a favorite pastime. In December of 2016 she moved to Pennsylvania to live with her daughter.

Ellen was preceded in death in January of 2009, by her husband of 53 years, Harry L. Coddington. She is survived by her children Sheila Kenyon (David) of Ligonier, PA and David Coddington of Port St. Lucie, FL, a brother Thomas Speares of Gulfport, MS, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Saturday October 4, at 11 AM in the Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Ligonier with Ellen's son in law
