Ellen L. Comstock, 88, of Oswego passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Lawrenceville NJ, the daughter of the late Harry A. and Ellen Jane (O'Donnell) Mahnken.
Ellen graduated high school from St. Agnes School for Girls in Loudonville NY, and then attended Springfield College in MA for physical education. Ellen also was a school bus driver for 12 years in New Lebanon before moving to Oswego in 1984, after which she drove for the Oswego City School District until retiring in 2002. In the Oswego School district, she was known as "Aunt Lee" in the "Henrietta Know it All School Bus Safety Program". While her girls were young she served as the troop leader for the New Lebanon Girl Scouts. Ellen was an avid boater and a Fair Haven Yacht Club member, and she enjoyed boating with her husband, taking many trips around Lake Ontario to Kingston, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and loved her Southern Comfort Manhattans. Above all, family and friends were the most important.
Ellen is survived by her loving husband William, daughters Suzanne Comstock Schmidt, New Lebanon, Candace Comstock, Fulton, and Kristen Comstock, Oswego, and grandchildren Samantha Lee Schmidt and Jade Nadine Comstock. She also leaves behind siblings William H. Mahnken, Henry A. Mahnken, and Wendy B. Hosick, a sister in law Lisa N. Comstock, as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be no services. Burial will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, New Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Fair Haven Junior Sailing Program. 14520 West Side Drive, Fair Haven NY 13064. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
