Ellen Mariah Forbes

Ellen M Forbes passed away on July 16, 2024 in Belmont, MA. Ellen was born in 1942 in Newton, MA, the eldest child of Richard Forbes and Carolyn Forbes (nee Walker). She grew up on the family farm in Stow, MA and Sudbury, MA, and was a graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury High School. Ellen also graduated from Colby Sawyer Jr College and Lesley University. Ellen spent her adult life raising her family in Byfield, MA and retired to Amesbury, MA.

One of the first female EMT's with the Byfield Fire Department in the 1970s, Ellen was an avid runner and animal lover, most especially horses and dogs. She found great joy in both the local and Cambridge Buddhist communities. Very proud of her Scottish heritage, Ellen enjoyed travel and her adventures included Peru, Mexico, Kenya and multiple trips to Scotland.

Ellen is survived by her two siblings; Robert W. Forbes and Laurie F. Gioia, her three daughters; Hilary Moore, Victoria Thurston and Andrea (John T.) Ice, her five grandchildren; Providence and Liberty Ice, Samantha and Robert Thurston, Theresa Karol and her great-grandson Ryan Savage. In her honor, the family asks for donations to Habitat for Humanity or your local animal shelter.
