Ellen Claire Gurtner

Ellen "Nan, Sweetheart, Sweetie" Claire Gurtner, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 23, 2025. Daughter of the late Frank Harold Sr. and Evelyn Boudreaux Gurtner. Sister of the late Frank Harold Jr. (Joyce) Gurtner. Survived by her nephew, Gregg Gurtner (Liz), great nieces Kristen and Emily Gurtner and her cousin Evelyn Remy. Will be deeply missed by her dear friends Betty, Yvonne, Helen, Mary Ellen, Susan, Alwyn, Vera Mae, Sister Catherine, and Fr. Lou. Born and raised in the Irish Channel. Parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church since 1987. A graduate of Redemptorist High School in New Orleans. Retired from Lykes Steamship Co. as an executive secretary.

Thanks to the Carmelite Nuns in Lafayette, LA and the Poor Clare Nuns in New Orleans for their endless prayers. Special thanks to Dr. Vemulapalli and the staff at UMCNO, the staff of Peristyle Residences, Audubon Care Homes, Covenant Home Health Care, Family Home Care, and Interim Health Care for their love and care.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carmelite Nuns in Lafayette, LA, the Poor Clare Nuns in New Orleans, or the National Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos in New Orleans.

Family and Friends are invited to attend funeral services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, La. 70001 on Monday, November 3, 2025. Visitation will begin at noon with Mass at 2pm. Burial to immediately follow.
