We present this obituary - a tribute written by Ellen's Family - in loving memory of Ellen Jean Ironmonger
Ellen Jean Roller, Ironmonger (88)
Born 8/16/36 to 10/8/24
(husband deceased)
A loving Mother to: Cathy Jean Barber, Patsy Ann (deceased), Julie Rose Helvie & Debbie Sue Kendall. Their spouses: Robert, David and Daniel, helped & protected Ellen in a number of ways through the years, each with the use of their own special talents. (Bob with piles of boards and nails, Dan with piles of paperwork and David with piles of fresh fish and mushrooms). She truly treated them as her own flesh.
Ellen cherished each and every one of her grandchildren: Bobby Barber, Danny Barber, Nathan Barber, Jeremy Helvie, Sarah Helvie, Cassia Harleman, Jarrod Kendall. Great-grandchildren: Jonny Barber, Cyrus Barber, Lola Barber, Wiley Barber, Vincent Helvie, Vashti Helvie, Charlie Kendall and Alice Kendall.
Ellen was a very industrious woman. Besides all her usual house duties, teaching her girls proper etiquette and table manners, she worked the fields on the farm, dealt with livestock, had a huge garden, which led to processing all the produce. Also, she was quite the "handyman" and assistant in the transforming of her 2 story childhood farmhouse & 4 acre lawn into a showpiece. Of course, she had her 3 little "assistants" trailing closely behind her!
She was a seamstress and could do most anything from wedding dresses to Barbie doll clothes. Let us not forget the quilts. She made over 100 of them, from sizes baby blanket to king bed.
Restoring antique furniture was another passion of hers. She had her own wood shop to make special crafts as gifts, one being, carved walking sticks with unique brass handles, etc, also her wooden name plaques. All of her works were of her own special style.
Knitting came into the picture too. She made countless, intricate baby clothes. " Who is having a baby?" She would ask. Then she would get busy with another baby project. All the kids, grandkids and more, got sweaters.
Ellen was a wonderful cook and baker. Best known for her potato salad & fruit pies. Talented she was, but she would giggle and say that the ability to do paintings must have skipped a generation.
She'd have a well rounded day with 2 coffee breaks and read books for a moment. That was her treat. The girls knew better than to interrupt her.
She had a special love for earth's beauty, that was made for mankind to live forever on. She loved natural gems and the ones that she loved to wear!
She was able to travel all 50 states, Many Canadian Provinces, Arctic Ocean and approximately 36 countries around the world.
It was an exciting privilege for her to do a Special Assignment for one year at Watchtower Bethel Branch in NY. In 1958, they went to the NY Yankee Stadium for a historic Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses. Wherever she was, she was always happy to share the Good News of God's Kingdom arrangement, conducting many Bible Studies with those yearning to hear it.
Through ALL of her years, she truly cherished her brothers: Richard, Jerry and Jim Roller. Their lovely families were important to her, as in spouses, nieces, nephews and Greats! She had in-laws-a-plenty and enjoyed the company of each and every one of them, making lots of welcomed treats for them. She truly loved them all deeply.
May it be, that we can all peacefully be together again along with her precious *parents, Woody and Ruth and on and on uninterrupted Happily Forever.
Memorial service is set for November 1st, at 10:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 309 W Northern Ave, Logansport. Flowers accepted or voluntary donations online to: www.jw.org
