Ellen Lee Madden

Ellen (McGrail) Madden, 82, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Colonial Poplin Nursing and Rehabilitation in Fremont, NH after a brief illness.

Ellen was born on September 14, 1943, to the late Robert and Helen (Lee) McGrail in Hudson, MA. She was raised in Hudson before meeting and marrying her husband of 24 years, Robert Madden, Jr. Together, they raised their two daughters, Ann and Jean, in Marlboro, MA.

Ellen was a trained nurse and worked as an LPN for over 30 years. She worked at various nursing homes in the Marlboro area and eventually retired from Sudbury Pines. Later in life, she moved to southern NH, to be closer to her daughters. Ellen loved family vacations, especially to the ocean, trips to the casino and rides to get an ice cream. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ellen is predeceased by her daughter Ann Madden; her brother James McGrail; sister Jane McGrail and her long-time companion after being widowed, R. Joe Crouteau.

Ellen is survived by her daughter Jean Packard and her husband David of Chester, NH; her granddaughter Jillian Packard and her partner Michael Cocuzzo; her 3 great grandchildren Kaylee, Michael, and Cameron all of Derry, NH; her sister Cathy McCune and her husband Jack of Bedford, MA; and many nephews and several nieces.

Friends and family are invited to a funeral service on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 11AM at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. Burial will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlboro, MA alongside her husband Bob.
