Ellen Gertrude Herndon McGee passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2025 at the age of 97. Her children were at her bedside.

Ellen was born on April 2, 1928 in Galveston, Texas, to Dillard Herndon, from Mississipppi, and Gertrude Murphy, from England. She was raised in Galveston and moved to Fort Worth in 1950. Over the 75 years she lived here, she worked for the Corps of Engineers, General Dynamics (now Lockheed), and TCU.

She married John McGee, of Bono, Texas, in 1956. They were married for 39 years until his death in 1995.

Ellen had many friends and acquaintances, including high school friends with whom she was in contact into her 90s. She enjoyed playing bridge, dining out, frequenting museums, and attending local performances. She also loved to travel with friends or family. Her last trip was to her beloved Galveston in the summer of 2023.

Ellen is survived by her son, John McGee III and his wife, Julie; Pat Schack and her husband, Robert; grandchildren, David Schack and Sara Schack, and cousin Audrey Owens. She is preceded in death by her husband, John McGee Jr and her parents.
