Ellen D'Aiuto McGregor, 90, formerly of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025. She was born December 4, 1935, in
Dover, Ohio, to the late Herman D'Aiuto and Marie Fioretti D'Aiuto, and moved with her family to Conneaut in 1945. Ellen graduated from Conneaut High School and from Kent State University in 1959, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
Ellen began her career as an elementary school teacher in Euclid, Ohio, and later taught in Heidelberg, Germany. During her years abroad-before starting her family-she traveled extensively throughout Europe, Egypt, and the Holy Land. While in Heidelberg, she met LTC Alexander McGregor Jr., U.S. Army, and together they shared a life of service and travel. As a devoted military wife, she lived in London, England, and Hawaii for four years, where she raised her family.
In 1977, Ellen moved with her family to
Fairfax, Virginia, where she became a longtime member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. She enjoyed theatre, fashion, mahjong, and time spent with friends. She was also devoted to her beloved Maltese, Princess. Above all, Ellen treasured being a mother and grandmother.
Ellen continued to enjoy travel throughout her life. Later journeys to Alaska, China, and several return visits to Italy were especially meaningful, as Italy was her father's birthplace and the heart of her family's heritage. Her connection to that heritage inspired her to study the Italian language in her later years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander. She is survived by her children, Alexandra Starr of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and Bruce McGregor of Chantilly, Virginia; and by six grandchildren.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband, LTC Alexander "Mac" McGregor Jr., at Arlington National Cemetery in
Arlington, Virginia, at a future date.
