Ellen Schomisch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Feb. 7, 2024.
Ellen K. Schomisch of Wacousta passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side. Ellie was born April 21, 1955 in St. Johns, Michigan to Edwin J. and Agnes C. (Smith) Schomisch. She graduated from Fowler High School in the Class of 1974 and went on to work for the Michigan Secretary of State for over thirty-three years. Ellie loved birds, was a lucky card player, and a lover of animals, especially her dog, Buck. She had a great memory and could remember details. Any of her family or friends who couldn't recall something would often say, "ask Ellie, she'll know." She enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her family and friends during the holidays and special occasions. Ellie's family and friends looked forward to the best Christmas gift each year when she would give them strawberry jelly, "Ellie's crack jelly."
She is survived by her husband and companion of forty-five years, Stephen Jones; mother, Agnes Schomisch; sisters, Chris Witt, Karen Schomisch, and Kathy Schomisch along with many nieces and nephews. Ellie was preceded in death by her dad, Edwin Schomisch; baby sister, Ann Schomisch, and infant brother, Gary Schomisch.
The family has requested a mass be offered and to pray for the eternal rest of Ellie Schomisch on Sunday, February 18, 2024, 10:00 AM St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns and on Friday, March 8, 2024, 8:15 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church in Fowler and on Ellie's birthday, Sunday April 21, 2024, 8:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Portland. Anatomy, the study of the human body, is one of the first and most important courses in the education of physicians. In most medical schools the study of anatomy is taught in the first year and serves as the foundation for courses in pathology, physiology, and surgery. Ellie donated her body to Michigan State University for medical education. Her donation assists in maintaining the Division of Human Anatomy's teaching program and enhances its commitment to teaching excellence.
Memorial contributions in Ellie's name may be given to the Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 E. Grand River Avenue, Lansing, Michigan 48906 (https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=cahsad&id=23) or Heart to Heart Hospice, 2260 E. Saginaw Street, Suite A, East Lansing, Michigan 48823. Arrangements by the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Share your memories and condolences online at www.holihanatkin.com

Ellie was such a sweetheart...wise beyond her years. She shared with me her delicious spaghetti sauce recipe and our family has been enjoying it for years. Every time we make a new batch we will think of her and smile!

Ellie exposed me to healthy food. But most of all she looked so much like my mom. She'll be missed.
