Ellen Thompson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell and Thomas Funeral Home - Richboro on Jun. 15, 2022.
Ellen Eggert Thompson of Churchville, PA, wife of the late George Bryan Thompson, passed away on June 7th 2022; she was 91. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Henry G. and Freida (Bartelt) Eggert.
After meeting her husband at a church retreat at Camp Beaverbrook in Pocono Pines, PA, they married in 1953 and Ellen moved to Philadelphia, George's hometown. In 1969 they moved their family to Bucks County where they both resided until their deaths.
In the early 1960's Ellen became a Licensed Practical Nurse having obtained her License by waiver after working and being trained on site at the office of Dr. Richard Diamond in Mayfair. In the late 1970's she privately studied for and passed her Pennsylvania State Board for Licensed Nursing. Ellen worked as a Charge Nurse at Pickering Manor Nursing Home in Newtown, Pa for 26 years until her retirement.
Ellen was a volunteer with Stephen Ministries, a Christ centered program which trains people to offer ongoing companionship to someone within their congregation in need of emotional support during a difficult time or crisis in their life.
At age 77 she successfully completed the national ministry program Diakonia through the ELCA synod of the Lutheran Church. She remained active at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, participating as a lay person in Christian education until a few years before her death.
As the only child of immigrants from Germany, in the early years of raising her family she always remained loyal and dedicated to the welfare of her parents. Although she spent years as a conscientious nurse and later a devout member of her church, her children and grandchildren were always central to her life. She consistently demonstrated her unconditional love for all of them and always put their interests above her own. She loved her home and being at "home" where she also lovingly cared for all her family dogs, Roger, Buffy, Brandy and Julie.
Ellen is survived by 4 children; Steven (Debbie), Loraine Leomporra (Mark), Ronald (Kim) and Lisa Buscavage (Mark); 8 grandchildren, Tara (Derek), Alexa (Tyler), Alexander (Kendall), Shannon (Ryan), Kyle, Savannah, Lindsay and Madison, her 5 month old great-grandson Cedric and her lovable Toy Poodle, Julie.
Funeral service to be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 877 Street Road, Southampton, PA on Monday, June 20th at 11:00 AM. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 AM prior to the service. Interment is at Union Cemetery, 209 Almshouse Road, Richboro, PA.
