Ellen Ruth Tonsing, 90 died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 16 at the Cooper House in Lincolnton, GA.
She was born August 19, 1932 in Franklin, West Virginia where she grew up, married Frederick William Tonsing in Alexandra Virginia in 1951 and graduated from George Mason University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in English and Education. She later worked as a schoolteacher which she thoroughly enjoyed. Ellen Ruth and Fred later retired in McCormick, SC. Her enjoyment was her garden club activities, spending time with her close friend Peg Glover and lovely dog Harmony. Her love for the gospel was unwavering as she studied the bible up until her death. She was a member of the Lincolnton United Methodist Church.
She is survived by sister June Vanoy; her two sons, Col. Frederick William Tonsing, Jr., US Army Retired and Loyd Alan Tonsing; grandchildren Jacqueline Durst; Frederick William Tonsing III, Tyler John Tonsing, Forrest Tonsing, and great grandchildren, Carter, Emersyn, Ellis, Brock and Addison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick William Tonsing and brother, Morris Atwood.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27 at 2pm at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton with Pastor Randy Kanipe officiating. Interment services will be on Wednesday, December 28 at 12pm at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.
