Of Norwalk, CT, Ellen R. Tuckner, 68, on June 17, 2025. Devoted mother of Julia Emily Alkon (New York) and loving husband of James Steven Alkon. Daughter of the late Phyllis (Schneider) Tuckner and the late Joseph Tuckner of Jackson Heights, NY.
A woman of inner beauty, warmth, love and compassion to all who knew her, and a paragon of virtue as a life-long education leader and literacy professional, having an impact on thousands of children, teachers and school administrators in her never-ending pursuit of helping our young people learn to read.
Born and raised in Jackson Heights, NY, she graduated from Newtown (NY) High School and later SUNY Binghamton. After initially pursuing a career in advertising, she shifted gears and returned to her studies to undertake a bigger calling. She received a degree in Reading Specialty from The College of New Rochelle and then a Master's Degree from the University of Connecticut in Educational Leadership and Administration.
She later held positions of K-5 Literacy Coordinator at Ridgefield (CT) Public Schools (2011-2012), Assistant Principal at Wilton Public Schools (2012-2015), Principal at Shelton Public Schools (2015-2017) and Principal at Ridgefield Public Schools (2017-2022).
Ellen's passion, sense of humor and love for life shone through with everyone she met, from her dear friends to people she hardly knew, even the staff that would serve her meals in the hospital. She had a lust for life and an infectious laugh. Her philosophy in life, both personal and professional, was in showing people the value of having fun, working hard and being nice all at the same time.
A memorial service was held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations in Ellen's memory be made to the International Literacy Association.
