Elliot “Ell” Homer Huggins, 91, beloved husband of 72 years to Shirley Roper Huggins, went to be with the Lord on September 18, 2025.
Born on January 2, 1934, in Hendersonville, NC, Ell was the son of the late Otis Milton and Joyce Patterson Huggins. A graduate of Pauline High School, he began his career with Southern Bell and went on to retire from AT&T after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
Ell was a wonderful, loving, and devoted family man. He never missed a moment – whether it was a ball game, recital, concert, or special event – for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His presence was a constant source of encouragement and joy. Strong in his faith, he was deeply involved in his church and lived his beliefs daily. He was a true friend to all, always ready with kindness, support, and a warm smile.
Through his humor and selfless spirit, he left a legacy of love and faith lived out by example. He especially enjoyed driving the church bus on trips and serving others wherever he was needed.
In addition to his loving wife, Shirley, he is survived by his daughters, Joy Huggins Turnipseed (Scott) of Marietta, GA, and Carla Huggins Percival (Jon) of Hendersonville, NC, and his grandchildren, Rebecca Sparks, Alisha Duston (John), and Morgan Kennedy (Matthew); and his great-grandchildren, Collin (Naomi), Carson, and Peyton Sparks, and Hannah Duston.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stanley Eugene Huggins, his brother, Basil Huggins, and his sister, Faye Lancaster.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Rebecca Stanley, his hospice nurse, for her exceptional care and compassionate support during his final days.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Roebuck Baptist Church, 1979 E Blackstock Rd, Roebuck, SC 29376. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM, with the service beginning at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Agape Care of SC in his honor, 187 N Church St Suite 201, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
