Ellis 'Rusty' Benson Beck Jr. (November 8, 1954 - September 22, 2023)
Born on November 8, 1954, in
Shreveport, Louisiana. Rusty was the son of Ellis Benson Beck Sr. and Doris Helen Beck Orr. Rusty's early life was marked by the loving presence of Charles Orr, who married his mother and raised him like his own son following the passing of Rusty's father. Rusty was a graduate of Byrd High School's Class of 1972. After graduation, he lived in Houston where he pursued his love of music. Working for ABC records, he had the privilege of meeting Dolly Parton and came home with countless stories. After moving back to Shreveport, he embarked on a remarkable journey as the proud owner of B&B Painting in Shreveport for over 30 years. Through his dedication and skilled craftsmanship, Rusty played a pivotal role in transforming countless homes in Shreveport Bossier. His commitment to delivering the finest quality work earned him the respect and admiration of both clients and colleagues.
On September 18, 1993, Rusty married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Boogaerts Beck, with whom he shared four decades of love, laughter, and cherished moments. Their bond was a source of strength and support throughout their lives. Rusty loved starting his day off by lighting candles and enjoying a cup of coffee on the front porch with his wife Barbara. Some of his greatest joys outside of work included being an ardent supporter of many sports teams such as the Shreveport Captains, the New Orleans Saints (WHO DAT), LSU Tigers, and the Houston Astros. He also spent many Mardi Gras seasons as an enthusiastic member of the Krewe of Centaur where he could be found throwing beads for several years. Over the last 22 years, as a member of the Sunday Morning Frestate III group, Rusty has worked selflessly with those struggling with alcohol addiction. The number of men he has helped lead to a life of recovery from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body that cannot be counted. His compensation for that work being only the joy of watching others move from darkness into the sunlight of God's spirit.
Rusty was a devoted member of Riverpark Church in Shreveport, where he found spiritual nourishment. The Briggs family welcomed him and Barbara with open arms from day one. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding his actions and shaping his character. Rusty was preceded in death by his father, Ellis Benson Beck Sr.; Charles Milton Orr and mother, Doris Helen Orr; sister, Anna Beth Beck Thomas; brother-in-law, Gary Wyatt; maternal grandparents, Oval and Mildred Griffin; and father-in-law, Harold Boogaerts. Rusty is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Boogaerts Beck; sister, Nancy Wyatt; sister-in-law Ginger Brown (Coleman); sister-in-law Donna Rountree (Gordon); mother-in-law Josephine Boogaerts; two special aunts, Pat Conner and Francine Orr; beloved nieces and nephews: Derrick Thomas, (Whitney); Jessica Jester (Matt); Michael Angle (Becky); Alycia Anderson (Lars); Nicole Lowe (Michael); Clint Brown and several great nieces and nephews who will continue to cherish his infectious spirit. Rusty never met a stranger. His quick wit, legacy of love and laughter, kindness, unwavering dedication, and exceptional craftsmanship will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him. He will be deeply missed by friends and family and forever remembered.
Officiating the service for Rusty's remarkable life will be brother Ransom Ashley. It will be held on Thursday, September 28th, 2023, at Riverpark Church in Shreveport beginning with a visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. A gathering of food and fellowship at the home of Derrick and Whitney Thomas will be held immediately after. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to Riverpark Church or The Robinson Rescue.
