Elmer Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, departed this world on June 9, 2025, at his residence in Scottsburg, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Saul, Kentucky on September 12, 1952, Elmer’s life was a testament to the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many. He was a steadfast worker, known for his generous spirit and unwavering commitment to providing for those he loved.
A proud Pentecostal, Elmer’s faith was the cornerstone of his character, guiding him in all aspects of his life. He found immense joy in nurturing his family, cherishing each moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his adoring wife of almost 50 years, Judy Bowling Jones, who was by his side through the years, enveloped in a partnership that blossomed through love and mutual respect.
Elmer is survived by his son Shelby Jones and his wife Tina of Lexington, Indiana, as well as his daughter Melissa Backus of Madison, Indiana. He is also remembered fondly by his brother, Paul Jones of Austin, Indiana. A legacy of love flows through his five grandchildren: Savannah Jones, Taylor Backus, Makayla Jones, Travis Jones, and Nathan Backus, along with two great-grandchildren, William McDole and Elijah Callis, who filled his heart with immeasurable pride and joy.
His hobbies reflected his spirited nature; he could often be found working diligently in his yard, expertly detailing cars, enjoying spirited games of cards, or embracing the thrill of coon hunting. These passions not only lifted his spirit but also drew his family closer together, creating treasured memories and a lifetime of stories filled with laughter and adventure.
Elmer was the son of Noah Jones and Hannah Rice Jones, both of whom have preceded him in death. Their teachings shaped him into the remarkable man he became and their legacy lives on through him.
