Born on November 13, 1944 in New Church, he was the son of the late William Jester and Dorothy Crockett Jester. Sonny was a jack-of-all-trades and did anything from carpentry to roofing and electric. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, making sea glass jewelry and later in life, watching soap operas. He was known for being hard headed and opinionated, but would help anyone in need. You always knew where you stood with Sonny.
Elmer is survived by his children, Shawn Wayne Kelly of Atlantic, Babette Kennovin of New Church, Sonny James Kelly, Jennifer Langley of Melfa and Cicily Dunton of Melfa; a brother, Don Kelly; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dale Mason.
No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley, VA.
