Ellis Elmo Douglas, 79, of
High Springs, Fl., passed away on Tuesday, November 7th after a short battle with cancer. Elmo grew up in High Springs, and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1962. He was well liked by his classmates and was voted Best All-Around and Best Personality by the Class of 62. He enjoyed playing basketball for Santa Fe, where he was a Co-Captain and an All-Conference player. He was also a member of the FFA, where he served as President of his chapter, and then as the 2nd Vice President of the 1962-1963 Florida State FFA Officer team. He later attended Lake City Community College, and graduated from Berry College in Rome, Georgia, before beginning a career in education. He was an Industrial Arts and Drafting teacher, where he impacted the lives of many students over a thirty year career. Many of his former students entered the construction trades due to his influence.During his life, he enjoyed the agricultural industry, and worked on his family farm producing tobacco, corn, peanuts, hay, and cattle. He was also a master craftsman, and spent many years wood-working, along with teaching others how to build and work with their hands.Elmo was born on April 15th, 1944 in High Springs and was the son of the late Horace (H.E.) and Arvie Douglas. Additionally, he was proceeded in death by his wife Donna Douglas, and his brother Eugene Douglas. He is survived by his brother Edwin Douglas of
High Springs, Fl., and his sister Naomi Douglas, also of
High Springs, Fl. Elmo is also survived by his son Brent Douglas and daughter in-law Amy Douglas of
High Springs, Fl., and his daughter Beth Wise and Son-in-law Tony Wise of Georgetown, Kentucky. Elmo is also survived by his grandchildren Jarrett and Rebecca Douglas, and Faith and Grace Wise, whom he loved very much. Elmo also leaves behind many other family members and close friends, who will miss his friendly and jovial ways. Elmo was a devout Christian, and spent his entire life loving the Lord. He served as a deacon of his church, was a Sunday school teacher, and was a choir member for many years. He enjoyed singing with his family and many friends over the years, and blessed many with his songs and personal testimony to the goodness of God. He participated in many mission trips and activities, and spent much of his life serving others.
