Eloise Mathis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bynes-Royall Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 6, 2025.
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my father;
there is no shadow of turning with thee;
Thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
as thou hast been, thou forever wilt be.
The Mathis Family officially announces,
the Obsequies for
Mrs. Eloise Bates Mathis
With tremendous sorrow, we bow to the will of our heavenly father's WILL, as we humbly announced the unforeseen, yet triumphant journey of our beloved,
Mrs. Eloise Bates Mathis
In the timeless echoes of eternity, amidst the whispers of the celestial realm, the immortal words of Jesus resound; "Jesus said unto him, I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me though he were dead' yet shall he live and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die, believest thou this.
On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the angel of silence came, and the celestial clock chimed, the mortal shall transcend the boundaries of morality, embracing the realm of the immortal.
Mrs. Eloise Bates Mathis legacy is etched in the tapestry of our hearts, may the grace of God, which glowed abundantly through Mrs. Eloise Bates Mathis, be a balm to our spirits in this time of mourning.
Today we understand that she has answered the divine summons and has heard the "MASTER'S Voice well done the God and faithful servant enter into the joy of the Lord."
Let us honor her memory with grace and gratitude, knowing that her spirit dwells eternally in the embrace of God, our Father.
TIL THE TRUMPET SOUNDS,
We, the Bynes-Royall Funeral Home family and staff along with the Mathis request your fervent prayers.
Her beloved family would like to thank everyone for the various acts of kindness extended to them.
Eloise Bates Mathis was born on February 9, 1951, the youngest of seven children to the late Mack and Lessie Bates.
She was educated in the Chatham County school system and pursued higher education at Savannah State College (now Savannah State University) and Fort Valley State University, where she earned her Montessori Training and Teaching Certificate. Passionate about education, Eloise dedicated her career to shaping young minds, working at Memorial Day School and Parent and Child Montessori School before serving as the Resource Coordinator for the Georgia Pre-K Program.
A devoted member of Connor's Temple Baptist Church, Eloise faithfully served in numerous ministries, including the W.W. Choir, Ladies Auxiliary, Mission in Action, Usher Board #1, the Mission, and the Welcoming Committee.
Eloise was also deeply committed to community service. As a member and past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star - Mt. Moriah #37, she exemplified leadership and compassion. She extended her dedication to service through Savannah's American Legion Post 500, supporting veterans, youth, and her local community. Additionally, she was an active member of Savannah Brown Sugar - Red Hat Society and The Hollywood Social Club.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John "Bobby" Mathis. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by her daughter, Emeka (Shawn) Henderson; her devoted oldest sister, Lena David; and her loving bonus children, John Mathis, Gregory Mathis, Stanley Mathis, Tony Mathis, Wanda Steward, and Tammy Demery. Her grandsons, Shamari and Elijah Henderson, were her greatest joy, and she adored them deeply. She shared a special bond with her niece, LaTrelle David, who held a treasured place in her heart. Eloise's kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. She was also blessed with a bonus granddaughter, Stacie Haggins, who lovingly cared for her in her final years.
