Elsie Yoe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rausch Funeral Home - Port Republic on Feb. 18, 2025.
Elsie Anne Yoe – Anne or Annie to friends and family – died peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Caribbean Breeze Assisted Living facility in Owings, Maryland at 95 years of age following a protracted series of illnesses. The youngest child of John Williams Yoe and Elsie Weems Yoe, Annie was born on June 10, 1929, at home on her family's farm in Port Republic Maryland.
Annie was graduated from Calvert County Senior High School at the age of 17 and was trained as a secretary at the Bard Avon School in Baltimore, where she was graduated cum laude before returning to live and work in Calvert County. She spent most of her career as secretary to the Superintendent of Public Schools for the County. She left that post to care for her widowed mother during her declining years. Following her mother's death, she worked in the office of local lawyer Warren Krug until he became a judge and completed her employment with the Calvert Bank and Trust (now PNC Bank) in Prince Frederick, Maryland.
Annie took great pleasure in having lived her entire life in Calvert County on the farm where she was reared. She loved people but worried that they were becoming too numerous in Calvert as the years progressed – a sentiment she shared with many of her contemporaries. She loved the seasonal rhythms of farm life, the satisfaction of eating food grown in the garden, and the space to share with her dogs and cats, in whom she delighted. Though never blessed with children of her own, she took great joy and pride in the company and accomplishments of her nieces and nephews. She loved good conversation, music, and dancing. Annie was baptized and confirmed at Christ Church (Episcopal) in Port Republic, where she worshipped throughout her life. She served as a member of the vestry, on the altar guild, and as a greeter at various times.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her five older siblings – Howard Yoe, Madeline Yoe Fink, Alvin Yoe, Betty Yoe Trueschler, and Linwood Yoe, and by a niece, Shirley Fink Copeland. She is survived by her cousins Jane Yoe Estabrook and Dru Estabrook Branche, nieces Pamela Yoe Hoffman, Beth Yoe Fiddler, Mary Ruth Yoe, Marjorie Anne Yoe, and nephews John W. Yoe and James G. Yoe, and by numerous great-nieces-and-nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at Christ Church on Friday, February 21 at 11 AM with the Rev. Dr. Lucretia Mann, Interim Rector officiating, followed by interment in the churchyard.
The family thanks the loving staff of the Caribbean Breeze Assisted Living facility for gentle care provided to Annie during her decline, and to friends who helped care for her at home when that was still possible. They also thank Rausch Funeral Home of Port Republic Maryland for their assistance in conducting the funeral and burial. Finally, the family requests that memorials be made as unrestricted gifts to Christ Church.
