Bob proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marines, fighting valiantly in Vietnam with the 1st Force Recon. His distinguished military career spanned 25 years, after which he retired with honor. Post-military, Bob continued his service to the nation by working at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, from which he retired after many years of dedicated work.
In his personal life, Bob found joy working in his yard and took great pride in maintaining it. A true sports enthusiast, Bob was a devoted fan of the Washington Redskins.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Melton Hummer and Mary Reid Hummer; his daughter, Barbara Ann Hummer; stepdaughter, Teresa Anita Bonk; grandson, Scott Hummer; and brother, Robert Hummer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Laura Anita Meads Hummer; his sons, Robert Wayne Hummer (Dana) and Jon McKennon; his stepson, Mike Moore (Sherri); and his step-grandchildren, Michael Moore, Jr., Hollie Moore, Morgan Rawlins, and Brenton Rawlins (Laura). Bob also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, his sister Marie Ellison, and several nephews.
Bob's legacy of service, love, and commitment will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Mike Henley officiating. Burial, with military honors, will take place at Quantico National Cemetery on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.. The family will receive friends and relatives for a visitation immediately following the funeral service in the chapel lobby. Bob's service will be live streamed.
