Robert Wayne "Bob" Hummer

Robert "Bob" Wayne Hummer, age 69, of Laytonsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, after a courageous, nearly two-year-long battle of complex medical issues. Born on August 17, 1955, Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose strength, kindness, and quiet determination touched the lives of many.

A graduate of Wheaton High School, Bob went on to attend Miami University in Ohio. He began his professional career at Hill and Sanders Ford Dealership. Later, he transitioned into the contracting field at various sites throughout the Washington DC area.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kathleen Hummer; his son, Jeremy Hummer, and daughter-in-law Trisha; and his three adored grandsons, Beaudy, Knox, and Caius, who were the light of his life. He loved cheering them on at their sporting events and will always be so proud of them.

He is also survived by his brother, Jim Hummer, sister Donna (Mike) Salvi, his first wife Claire (Brian) Mack (Jeremy's mother), father-in-law Joseph Cardaci, brother-in-law Jim Cardaci, sister-in-law Kelly (Bill) Donovan, nieces Gabrielle, Michaela, and Ella Donovan of whom he was incredibly proud. He is survived by other nieces and nephews as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Jeanne Hummer; his sister Sandra Holck; his brother John Hummer, nephew Brendon Holck, his mother-in-law Ann Cardaci, and his brother-in-law Joseph Cardaci Jr.

Bob's life was defined by quiet strength, hard work, and a deep, enduring love for his family. His sense of responsibility, humility, and unwavering support made him a rock to those closest to him, and his memory will live on in the many lives he touched.

There will be a burial service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD on Monday June 23 at 1pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at Mama Lucia's Restaurant in Olney, MD around 2pm. (18224 Village Center Dr, Olney, MD 20832)
