Elton Lynell Thomason was born February 16, 1933 and received his glory in Heaven January 19, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Lynell was met in Heaven by his wife of 57 years and love of his life, Hilda Thomason, son, Rayford Thomason and wife Fabia. Also at his homecoming would be his mother Audie Thomason and father, John Thomason. Numerous brothers and sisters who passed before including, Quinton Thomason, John Thomason, Datha Landry, Pat Lanclos, Margie Crawford and Janiece James would have met him for the reunion, we can only begin to imagine.
Those left behind to celebrate his life are his daughter, Sandra Parks and husband Jackie, son, Elton Lynell Thomason Jr. (Buckshot) and wife Georgine, sisters, Macie Jones and Dorthy Richard. Lynell was a proud grandfather to Cory Scott Parks, Ashley Ann Umphrey, Julie Thomason, Jodi Thomason, Brealynn Kyle, Maris Thomason, Jack Credeur and Crystal Brown. Also included are seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Lynell loved Sulphur and served as a police officer and eventually Chief of Police for a combined total of nineteen years. Lynell lived his life as a hard worker and when not tending his police job, he was a painter and sheetrock finisher. Many of the homes in Sulphur carry the signature of his expert work. Early on, Lynell loved to spend time at his camp on Toro Creek at Toledo Bend, piecing together dune buggies to hunt with and chase deer hounds. He loved the chase but at some point, he lost the desire to kill the animal. He was a tough man with a tender heart. Later, Lynell and Hilda moved to Reeves, La. to be close to his daughter and grandchildren. Lynell raised a few cattle which became more pets than anything else. Lynell could plant a stick in the ground and it would sprout into a berry bush, his green thumb was amazing. Lynell will be remembered most for his love of God. Lynell and Hilda faced health challenges that would have shaken a lot of believers but the way they faced it personified the word of God that describes a "peace that passes all understanding". The family would like to thank the staff at High Hope Care Center and Brighton Bridge Hospice for their compassionate care during the final season of Lynell's life.
The Long Goodbye.
It's the way that Alzheimers/Dementia is described. It's not a bad description although, at times, it's not as clean and tidy as it sounds. For Lynell, when he took his last breath, God, in the twinkle of his eye, brought Lynell into Eternity where his mind and body would be restored better than he ever imagined possible. I can't claim to know, or to even imagine, what the palaces in heaven may look like but I can tell you this, if there is any sheetrock on the walls of these palaces, Lynell found a pair of stilts and went to work skimming seams because Lynell always needed a job.
Funeral services for Lynell will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 10 AM. The family will receive guest starting at 6 PM until 8 PM on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur. Visitation will resume Tuesday morning at 8 AM until time of service. Burial will follow at Prewitt Chapel Cemetery in Hornbeck at 1:30 PM with Pastor Greg Cavenah officiating under the direction of Johnson Funeral home of Sulphur.
