Elvera Voss (nee Laubenstein) Obituary

Visit the Myrhum-Patten Funeral & Cremation Service - West Bend website to view the full obituary.

Elvera Meta Voss (née Laubenstein), a baptized child of God, a deeply loved mother, the kindest of grandmothers, and the most joyous of great-grandmothers, was born on August 21, 1937, in Decker’s Corners, Cedarburg, WI, to Erwin Laubenstein and Renata (née Benicke). Elvera passed gently into Jesus’s arms on September 10, 2025, surrounded by her family. She now rests with her beloved husband as they await the resurrection of the dead.

Elvera’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith in Christ, which sustained and comforted her throughout her journey. Her strength inspired her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charles Voss; her parents (Erwin and Renata); and her brothers and in-laws: Elroy (Frieda), Marvin (Angie), Armin (Bernice), Roman (LaVerne) Laubenstein; Shirley Laubenstein; David Martin; Joseph Voss; Howard Voss; and Helen Schneider.

Elvera was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She is survived by her five children: Denise Kenworthy (John), Michael Voss, Stephen Voss (Catherine), Thomas Voss (Katherine), and Janean Voss (Rick Sofka); her brother Howard Laubenstein of Berlin, WI; her twin sister Elmyra Martin of West Bend, WI; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Elvera and her twin sister Elmyra left high school during their sophomore year in 1952, following their father’s passing, to help their mother at home. They both began working at Amity Leather Products in 1955 and moved to West Bend together in 1956. Around this time, Elvera met Charles at a park picnic in Barton, WI. They married on September 7, 1957, and shared a joyful, faith-filled life until his passing in 2011.

Elvera lived a life of faithful service. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at St. Joseph’s Hospital, sewed dresses for orphans in Haiti, and served as Vice President of the Ladies Aid Society. She was active in Bible studies, helped with the Altar Guild, and was a dedicated member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend.

Family was the heart of Elvera’s life, and spending time with them brought her the greatest joy. She also found joy in simple things: gardening, canning, baking for every occasion, celebrating holidays with her family, watching the Brewers, putting together jigsaw puzzles, preparing meals that brought her family together, and listening to old country music like the Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys, and Johnny Cash. She also treasured memories of her beloved dog, Angel Bob, who was once her favorite napping companion.

Elvera’s home was warm, her hands busy, and her heart rooted in love and faith. She lived with humility, grace, and generosity. Her life was grounded in Psalm 23: “The Lord is my Shepherd.” Those who knew her will carry her legacy of faith and love forever.

The family thanks the staff of Ivy Manor and Preceptor Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days.

A service of Christian hope and comfort will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend, WI. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed immediately by the funeral service with Pastor Stephen Reynolds officiating the service. Afterward, committal will take place at Washington County Memorial Park, with a luncheon to follow at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Ladies Aid Society.

Myrhum-Patten Funeral & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Elvera’s arrangements. Additional information and guest book can be found at www.myrhum-patten.com.
