Funeral Service for Elvis Kenneth Red Bear, 68, of
Sisseton, SD will be held on April 22, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the Enemy Swim Community Center, Enemy Swim, SD, with Fr. Charles Chan and Episcopal Leaders officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Berg, Ryder Shepherd, Steve Kongi Sr., Easton Ortley, Jasiah Red Bear, Kaisaac Miller, and Doug "Tubbs" Rencountre. Honorary Pallbearers will be All of Elvis' Friends & Relatives. Interment will be in the St. James' Episcopal Cemetery, Waubay, SD. There will be an all-night Wake Service on Monday, April 21, 2025, starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Enemy Swim Community Center. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Elvis was born on February 28, 1957, in
Sisseton, SD to Delores Red Bear and Clarence Ortley. In his early years, he grew up in the Owl Lake area with his mom, stepdad, brothers, and sisters. When his mother passed, Verna Sargent raised him. Early in his life, Elvis worked for local farmers and did bronco riding. He went to Wahpeton Indian School. He got his GED and went to Sisseton Wahpeton college for one semester. Early in life he enlisted in the Marines and was discharged due to unforeseen circumstances. Elvis was married to Marcella Cutt and together they had five children. He then was married to Mary Longcrow and they had three children and adopted one child. He lived in Ft. Thompson, Enemy Swim and Sisseton. Elvis was a truck driver for Triple E Trucking for 36 years. His hobbies were playing Yahtzee, watching western, hunting, and fishing. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings. Elvis passed away at the Tekakwitha Living Center on April 16, 2025, with his sister, youngest daughter, and his grandson by his side.
Elvis is survived by his children, Leslie Ortley of Sioux Falls, SD, Stella Wilson, Kayla Ventura-Martin of Pierre SD, Brandon Thorpe of Warner, SD, Chelsey Pohawpatchoko of Ft. Thompson, Kelsey (Eric) Moore of Cherokee, NC, Ethan (Robyn) Ortley of Ft. Thompson, and Earlwyn Makes Room For Them of Thomas, IL; three brothers, Merle (Donna) Red Bear of Enemy Swim, Wesley Ortley of West Virginia, Jeffery Dolbear of Alabama; sister, Donnette Red Bear of
Sisseton, SD; many grandchildren and four great grandchildren; step brother, Ray Rouillard, Vernon Rouillard and John Sargeant; stepsisters Sonia Rouillard, Hunka sisters, Ramona Bear Hill, Georgette Kongi and Evelyn Kongi; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Elvis was preceded in death by his mother Delores; stepfather Lincoln Rouillard; one daughter Lindsey Ortley; brothers Marvin and Wayne; step paternal grandparents Wilford and Virginia (Bernard) Rouillard; maternal grandparents Benjamin and Sadie (Seaboy) Red Bear; hunka Tony Owen; nephews Benjamin Eagle and Jade White II; Ina Verna Sargeant; niece Lori Johanna Red Bear; and grandson LaTarian White.
