MITCHELL – Elza William Milligan, 83, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at his residence.

Born February 24, 1942, in Orange County, he was the son of William Dexter and Ida Elizabeth (Lewis) Milligan. He married Minnie Lou Finn on June 26, 1964 and she survives.

Elza was a 1960 graduate of Mitchell High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Elza worked at Regal Beloit and retired as a groundskeeper from Cresthaven Memory Gardens. He attended Mitchell Church of the Nazarene. Elza was an avid sports fan; especially Indiana University, the L.A. Dodgers, and the Chicago Bears. He always enjoyed big family meals.

Surviving are his wife, Minnie Lou Milligan of Mitchell; children, Carolanna Sue (Mark) Sutherlin of Mitchell, Monica Lou Patterson of Mt. Vernon, and Elaine Michelle (Andy) Miller of Mitchell; grandchildren, Niky (Jason) Meadows, Samuel Adam (Kayla) Miller, Brittany Danielle Adams, Sarah Annalee Miller, and Mason Michael Webster; great-grandchildren, Jayson Blaine, Tanner Keith, Xavier Dean, Frankie Mae, Olyvia Jayde, and one on the way, and there were so many who were grandchildren in his heart; nephew, Bill (Natalie) Brim of Mitchell; and nieces, Christina Knight of Tennessee, Telena Deckard of Bloomington, and Delphenia (Ray) Carron of Bedford.

His parents and sisters, Rosemary Marie Knight, Della Mae McCord, Juliaetta Collins, Pauline Jewell Brim, Blanche Esther Milligan, Martha Elizabeth Milligan, and Mary Ada Fender, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, at Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
