Keohane Funeral Home - QuincyEmil George Frederick (“Dewey”) Belanger Jr., a longtime resident of Quincy, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Dewey was the beloved husband of 60 years to Patricia (Edwards) Belanger, and loving father of Paul Belanger of Plainville, Michelle (Belanger) Costa of Braintree, and Mark Belanger of Brookline, New Hampshire. He was a proud “Papa”, and he is survived by 7 grandchildren - Daniel Belanger, Nicole Belanger, Caitlin Belanger, Brian Belanger, Rachel Costa, Joshua Belanger, and Benjamin Belanger; and was predeceased by his grandson Michael Costa. He was the brother of Dorothy (Dotti) Phillips and Eugenie (Jeanne) Sciarini. He is also survived by many other extended family members.
Dewey grew up in Boston and served proudly in the US Air Force after completing high school. He returned to Boston after he completed his service, where he met the love of his life Patricia. They settled in Quincy where they started and raised their family in the same house he lived in for the rest of his life.
For 30 years, Dewey served as a Firefighter for the City of Boston, retiring in 1997. He was hardworking, dedicated, brave, and made a lasting impact through his prolonged service to the City.
When he retired, his work was far from complete. He spent countless hours dedicated to his grandchildren, playing with them, telling stories, and attending numerous sporting events and other activities.
Throughout his life, he was known for his infectious smile, incredible sense of humor, and selfless dedication to his country, his community, and his family. For that he will be missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 4–7 PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy (785 Hancock St). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, prior to the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Quincy.
