On June 27th, 2024, Emilio José Sinmen Cheuy, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully.
Emilio was born on July 13th, 1937, in Granada, Nicaragua, to Emilio Cheuy Sr. and Graciela (Cordero). At the age of eleven, he moved to Hong Kong where he completed high school at La Salle College. Emilio received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from St. Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He met and married his beloved wife Mary June (Tommy) neé Williams in Nova Scotia. Together, they raised three children, David, Sylvia, and Margot. He remained in Canada until 1985, when he made Akron Ohio his home.
Emilio was a dedicated family man who shared a joyful sense of fun with each of his grandchildren Mena, Gabriella, Renée, Garrett, Nick, Brian, and Sean. He was fluent in English, Spanish and Cantonese and embraced all the cultures he lived in. He was a man of deep faith and a member of St. Sebastian's parish in Akron, Ohio
Emilio was preceded by his father, Emilio Sr., his mother, Graciela, and sisters Vilma and Meyon. He is survived by his wife Mary (Tommy), his children David (Catherine), Sylvia (John) and Margot (Doug), and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Lanyin, Maylin and Constantino, his sister-in-law Gail, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 6 at Saint Sebastian Parish, 476 Mull Avenue Akron Ohio. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the Mass with the rosary being prayed at 10:40 am. Interment will be held at a later date in Annapolis, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Emilio's memory to St. Sebastian's Parish.
