Emily Rose Hoffman, age 27, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Emily was born on April 8, 1998, in Chicago, Illinois, and was adopted by Jerry and Colleen Hoffman when she was just six days old. From the very beginning, Emily was a sassy spitfire with a larger-than-life personality. A true daddy’s girl, she followed him everywhere, never afraid to get dirty—whether it was climbing the tallest trees, finding snakes in the grass, or playing in the mud.
One of 12 children, Emily shared a particularly close bond with her sister Maria. Growing up, the two were inseparable—you rarely saw one without the other.
Emily and her family moved to Bismarck, ND, in 1999, then to Springfield, OH, in 2002, before settling in Moorhead, MN, in 2005. A fierce competitor, Emily loved challenging the boys in gym class and usually came out on top. She excelled in volleyball throughout middle and high school, playing on the J.O. team, and was known for her wicked serve.
As they got older, Emily and Maria were blessed to reconnect with their biological family and cherished the opportunity to build and strengthen those relationships.
In 2015, Emily and Dameon Jr. welcomed their first child, Dameon III, followed by Damari in 2016. Emily adored being a mother, often saying her boys were her whole world.
She found deep purpose in her work in disability services, where she was beloved by both clients and coworkers for her compassion, dedication, and warm spirit.
Emily is survived by her parents, Jerry and Colleen Hoffman of Moorhead, MN; her sons, Dameon III and Damari Johnson of Moorhead; and her siblings: Chris (Andrea) Hoffman of Woodridge, IL; Brian Hoffman of Scottsdale, AZ; Bethany Colton, Joseph Hoffman, Sara Randall, John Hoffman, Maria Hoffman, Brianna Hoffman, Armondo Hoffman, Ahmina Hoffman, and Charlie Hoffman, all of Moorhead.
She is also survived by her sister Cherrokee (Clyde) Akins of Chicago, IL; her brothers William (Shenita) Brown of Chicago, IL, and Donald Henderson of New York, NY; as well as her biological mother, Yolanda Brown of Dolton, IL. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
