Emma Jean Bird, 86, of Kalkaska, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024 at Munson Hospice House. She was born on April 16, 1938 in Onaway to the late Zora and Alvina (Danks) McTaggart. Being a retired school teacher, Jean was a picture of patience, and offered wonderful counsel to anyone in need. Using those life skills that Jean had perfected she was always supportive to friends and family. She was kind, and had a sweet stubbornness about her that was hard not to love. Jean enjoyed knitting, crochet, and cross stitch in her spare time. Her faith carried her through many tough times in life, and her church family was very important to her. Jean was also a proud member of TOPS, working to support the youth in her community. Jean is survived by her granddaughters Taylor and Ashley Bird, grandson Blake Allman, mother to her grandchildren Bobbi Jo Bird and countless friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Ken Bird and her son Duane Bird. Visitation will be held from 10am-11am on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Kalkaska Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:00am following visitation with Pastor Jacob Terry of Fife Lake Baptist Church presiding. Burial will follow at Lodi Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home.

I met Jean at the Kalkaska, TOPS Chapter.
She, was the sweet lady, which turned into a dear friendship.
Hugs and prayers of comfort to her Grand daughters, whom she loved very much.
