Emma Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tumey Mortuary on Feb. 2, 2026.
Emma Jean (Allen) Brown was born on September 7, 1936, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, to Elbert and Tiny Mae (Standback) Allen. From the very beginning, Emma was rooted in faith, family, and love-values she carried with her throughout her life.

Emma attended Booker T. Washington High School in Mount Pleasant, Texas. After graduating, she moved to Dallas, where she dedicated many years working in the healthcare field, caring for others as naturally as she cared for her own family. In 1970, she returned home, where she continued to serve her community and church faithfully.

She was a proud member of the Grand Court Order of Calanthe and a devoted member of Piney Baptist Church. There, she served as President Emeritus of the Mission Society, sang in the choir, and lovingly taught primary children. Her faith was not only something she practiced-it was something she lived.

Emma found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She loved gardening, canning, and cooking meals that brought family together. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, creating memories that will live on in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Tiny Mae Allen; her son, Elbert Brown; her grandson, Curtis Brown; her brothers, Isaac Allen, Kelly Allen, and Albert Allen; and her sisters, Theresa Minter, Vera Lewis, Ida Mae Plummer, and Lillian Branch.

Emma leaves to cherish her memory; her daughters, Janice Allen of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and Donna Medlock of Dallas, Texas; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Jessie Brown of Dallas, Texas; nineteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Willie Joe and Margaret Allen, Leroy and Sandra Allen, and Margie and Alberta Allen, all of Dallas, Texas; her goddaughter, Ebony Johnson of Dallas, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

Emma Jean Brown's legacy is one of faith, service, love, and family-a life well lived and deeply cherished.

Emma, I met you as a census taker. You were my last stop that day. We sat on your porch on this lovely summer day and chatted. We discussed Black history - real history, not rabble-rousing activists. I tried to find your childhood history book. No luck at that, but I did bring back an interesting Black history book I thought you'd like. Good bye, good neighbor. Blessings on your family.
