Emma Reen Mathews was born June 6, 1945, in New Orleans, LA, to the late Rev. Wilson Mathews, Sr. and Rose Mary Conner Mathews. She was raised and lived most of her life in Galveston, TX. Emma graduated from Central High School. She was the proud owner and operator of Auntie Em's Can-DoService, serving many families and businesses throughoutGalveston County.
Emma loved the Lord. She actively served at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, and later at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church.
Emma was deeply loved by an abundance of family and friends; she reciprocated that love to everyone that crossed her path. She was beautifully affectionate and adored showering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with loving hugs and kisses. Her love was endless and will live on through manygenerations.
Emma gained her wings on November 14, 2021, at 10:40 p.m. in Fort Worth, TX. She was surrounded by her family as she slipped away peacefully to be with the Lord.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Wilson Mathews, Sr. and Rose Mary Conner Mathews, brother, Vernon Mathews, and grandson, Marcus Lee.
Emma leaves cherished memories with her daughter, Sophrenia Lee (Leon); her lifetime companion, Robert Harris; grandchildren Brandon Lee (Lagale), Kaci Bayless (Tyler), and Erin Lee; granddaughter-in-law, Karlisha Lee; 10 great-grandchildren; five siblings Dennis Mathews (Luci), LydiaMathews, Vernette Porter (Coleman), Erwin Mathews, and Wilson Mathews, Jr.; goddaughter Sonia Conner; and a host of family and friends.
